Zambia Green Jobs Programme Annual Impact Report Dissemination Meeting
10 June 2015 - As the 2014 Annual Impact Report of the Zambia Green Jobs Programme (ZGJP) documenting progress and achievements towards targets has been finalised, the ZGJP invited partners, stakeholders and the media to a dissemination workshop, which took place on Wednesday June 10th in the ILO Main Boardroom. In addition to distributing the 2014 annual report, the meeting served as an opportunity to jointly reflect upon the milestones reached during 2014 and discuss progress achieved during the first half of 2015. The meeting acknowledged that the ZGJP had made significant progress in the year 2014 which was considered as the effective initial implementation period.
A majority of the stakeholders were present, including representatives from the Ministry of Labour and Social Security; Ministry of Commerce, Trade and Industry; National Pension Scheme Authority; Association of Building and Civil Engineering Contractors; Copperbelt University; University of Zambia and; Zambia Environmental Management Agency amongst others. In addition, a total of 10 press members representing radio and print media attended the event.
The meeting started with an overview of the 2014 annual report and the logic behind the reporting of results, given by Ms. Helene Thor, Communications Officer, followed by a presentation on emerging results during 2015 by Mr Karl Pfeffer, Assistant Programme Manager.
During the Q & A Session which concluded the meeting, several topics and issues were raised such as the role and function of the Zambia Green Building Association, the importance of the upcoming Green Building Guidelines, the importance of Environmental Impact Assessments, the definition of a green building and the green job creation potential of the Zambian construction industry. It was pointed out that working together with partners the intended targets will be met and it was stressed that changing mind-sets to green construction technologies and approaches continues to be a main task for the Programme.
