Zambia Green Jobs Programme successfully brings its Steering Committee on a Field Visit
From 28th of September until 1st October, the ZGJP took its Steering Committee on a field visit to a selected few of the programme project sites in the North Western and Copperbelt Provinces.
The high-level delegation included amongst others, HE Timo Olkkonen, Ambassador of Finland to Zambia, Mr. Alexio Musindo, Director ILO CO-Lusaka, Zambia Federation of Employers (ZFE), Zambia Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU), National Association of Medium and Small Scale Contractors (NAMSSC), Association of Building and Civil Engineering Contractors (ABCEC), and other Government representatives.
Some of the highlights during the trip were a courtesy call on North-Western Province Minister Dawson Kafwaya, a cocktail reception with His Worship Mulongo, Mayor of Solwezi, visits to Kalumbila Town, Barrick Lumwana and Lafarge Ndola Green demo units sites, as well as visits to the Copperbelt University, Kalulushi Clay Bricks Factory, Zambia National Association of Sawmillers and Poor Peoples Federation Solar skills training project in Kalulushi.
The trip was well appreciated among the group, especially by the Finnish Ambassador who stated that it was well-organised and that he really appreciated the project sites. He further said that "Zambia Green Jobs Programme combines jobs creation, improvement of livelihoods and sustainability, which are issues of great importance to Finland."
The trip concluded with the ZGJP 6th Steering Committee Meeting, during which the preliminary findings of the on-going independent mid-term evaluation of the ZGJP were presented.
